A lot of guys in my area are using yellow locust. It is dense, stong and resist rot very well. The only way that I know to get it though is to take a log to a mill and have it cut. The tree's and the mills are very common in my area, don't know about yours. Left with other alternatives, go with oak and then as a last resort treated pine. We used treated pine on my trailer, and I would say that I am only mildly satisfied. I would still treat it with Thompsons Water Seal or somthing of that nature.
