I used a front blade on a 140 for years to clear snow on a blacktop drive. I had no skids and never had any problem. Don't put down pressure on the blade, let gavity do the work. And also, if you can, tilt the blade so that the edge that contacts is as near vertical as possible, not tilted back so that it wants to dig in. That helps keep the blade from digging in and also rolls the snow better. I also found that faster was better. I always plowed snow in third at full throttle on the longer runs.
