I will agree with everything said on this thread except for the working tools. The shanks, clamps, weeders spring teeth etc. typically were black. If you look closely at the cover picture of Guy's Data Book, you can see the shanks and clamps are black. This can be verified by looking at the paint committee decisions in the archives. The actual shovels, sweeps etc. were unpainted and covered with varnish.
