Well, I think a big part of it is that many of us aren't making a living with these old tractors. Many of us use them on the farm, but we don't rely solely on them. For instance, one our farm, which my brothers and I (well, I am in college) have full time jobs and farm on the side. Our farm is small, but our main tractors are a Case Ih 885 and a 385. We have some tractors in the late '60's into the 70's, but we also have two super C's and just sold an M. These tractors are nice to use occasionally or as a backup, but I couldn't imagine plowing 100 acres with a M and a hand set plow. I think the old timers were happy to move up to better hydraulics, power steering, diesel, etc. I love to fool around with the older tractors, but I couldn't make a living with them, well very easily.
