I would venture to say that IH did make some LP's in the SMTA series. They may have been outsourced to be final built. To id an IH SMTA LPG, I would look for an Ensign LP carb and gas regulator. Also a LP fuel tank which is perpendicular to the tractors frame(exactly like the Super M LPG has). The LP tank should have a metal ID tag on it with an IH stamp and UL labs approval decal on it too.

As for using a tractor that you see at an auction for a comparison benchmark, I do not like this. Too many tractors have been "customized" by thier owners and many people believe the tractors to be original, "because thats the ONLY WAY they remember them".
