Super A Distributor Question

I am working on a 1951 Super A with distributor and coil ignition. My question concerns the housing that the distributor bolts onto. It contains a gear from the engine that drives the distributor gear. This housing needs oil in it does it not? I don't see any way for engine oil to get to it. How are the gears lubricated and what type of lubricant? Many thanks ahead of time.
