Don't forget about the coil, and use either a 12 volt coil or put in a ballast. There was a post a while back which someone said they used the old generator and just switched to a 12 volt regulator and it worked great. Makes sense since the primary function of the "voltage regulator" is to regulate the voltage. You might search the archived discussions for this info.
