I tend to agree with you Ken, if your not going to use it much go for the gas. The diesels are fine when your working them hard. I used a Farmall 300 then 560D in farm woodlot and later a John Deere 540A skidder. I used a home built winch that I had built for 300. On 560D I mounted the winch higher so as to lift front end of logs off ground. At the time I had suitcase weights I used when necessary. In winter with ice chains,frozen and level ground 560D would give 540A a hard run on production (540A without chains) I say go for the 806 gas, heavier chassis than 560, power not a big concern skidding. When I did this you couldn't buy a 3 point hitch logging winch, with 3 point height is adjustable, mine was bolted solid.
