There's several places you can get slop in that steering system, and I got most of 'em in mine. First, there should be no noticeable play in the steering gearbox output shafts. If you got some play, figure out if it's sideplay (the shaft is loose in the bushings) or rotary play (backlash in the gears). Backlash can be adjusted out, but sideplay requires removing the gearbox and replacing parts. Next, your drag link ends could be shot, on mine, three of four were shot. You can get them at your Case/IH dealer for about $300 for a set of four or from OEM Tractor Parts for $60-something for a set of four. Third, the steering arm on the top of the spindle could have some play in the splines. I got one like that, just a little play, and haven't figured out yet what I need to do about it. I figure I'll worry about that when the rest is hunky-dory. Lastly is the wheel bearings, and you can check them by raising the front end and trying to wiggle the wheel. Have fun, sounds like you got a job ahead of you.
