Mag works! wiring question

Last year I bought a mag for my M the guy sold it to me for $30, said it didn't work. I put I new condenser in it and filed the points and Snap Snap Snap! I'm a happy guy. Ok so my 1941 Farmall M has a 12V conversion. The #1 wire off of the alt. goes through the switch to the coil. I know I don't need it for the mag, is there any reason for the wire to still go from #1 alt to the switch? I have looked around this site but I just havn't seen this setup discussed.
