H light switch w/12V

I'm redoing all wiring on an H and at same time putting in a 12V batt and regulator. The question is that in doing this will I ruin the light selector switch which has the wire resistor for light dimming and high and low charging rate?? (In other words will the resistor blow if used with a 12V batt)
