sounds like you're "hell bent for leather" to work on something. OK, have fun. This might give you some insight into the valve guides. Operate the H til warm, then at about 1,000 rpm, quickly throttle up to max. Observe for blue smoke. Now idle down to "dead" idle, barely running for about a minute at least, then throttle up to max. If you get a rush of blue smoke the second time, after the low idle period, but not much the first time, it may be a good sign of worn valve guides. At low idle, there is less neg pressure on the head and oil will collect over the valve guides. At higher rpm, the pressure increases and sucks the oil past the guides. At the higher beginning rpm, there is less pooling of oil, then less blue smoke at throttle up.
