Have you put fresh gasoline in the tractor? If you did, was it purchased before last fall? In nothern climates gasoline is blended differently depending on the season of use. Gasoline for summer use will not vaporize as well as that blended for winter use. With a down draft carb with an pump this is usually not to much of a problem but an updraft carb may not be able to draw enough vaporized fuel to start. Was the engine is warmed up the fuel will vaporize more readily and the engine will continue to start until it cools off. The light ends of the fuel blend will also evaporate off more quickly than the heavier ends. When I worked at a dealership this was a common problem even in the summer when we wanted to move machines for mowing. If a combine sat over winter and no fresh gas was added in the spring we always had to prime them to get them started. Always ran fine once you had them running.
