Randy: My alternator is a GM delco, it sits exactly same place as the generator that was on there, and the alternator drive pulley is 1" from the factory shroud. The alternator is below the factory hood and the back side is about 1" from engine block, just enough room to allow the throttle linkage to operate freely behind it. The mount I fabricated for this cost me less than $20. By using the double GM pulley, it lines the old brace for tightening belt perfectly. I put it on 3 years ago, tightened belt once, and it's been trouble free ever since.
