Super A adjustable tie rod ends... HELP!!!

I have almost finshed my 1951 Super A rebuild, just a few small items left. Today was supposed to be easy, install all new tie rod ends. However, they still are not installed. I cannot get the long adjustable ends into the tubes! They will go approximately 1-1/4" in and stop. I tried a big hammer and block of wood, but it didn't do much. Also tried heating the tube; no luck either. Besides, if they go in that tight, I'll never be able to slide them out to ajust the front end. I have the automotive style ends and I have the correct size for my tubes acording to the parts book. Is there something I'm missing here? How tight should they be? Thanks for any help.
