RKS. Yes the entire starter was replaced and there appears to be no wear to the starter or to the ring gear, and yes there was smoke billowing for 3 or 4 minutes out of several vent holes. I tried to advance the ring gear by rocking it and it does not advance. So, what am I looking for. I am sure I am in store for a long haul in repairing it but knowing where I might start will offer a little relief
