Red hot manifold at full load is perfectly normal - as is a pale yellow flame standing 6" or so out of the top of the muffler. Mine's been doing it since I first plowed with it in the late '60's, and it's still going strong. If the manifold lights up at less than full load/RPM however you've got a problem - check for late ign timing or lean carburetor.
