An intersting solution (remembered from here) is to cross drill the shaft with a 7/64 drill bit such that the drill enters where a zerk can be installed, and exits where the (poorly designed) steel sleeve touches the shaft. This allows the lube to get into the surfaces. Use your best judgement on location and angle. Drilling right down the middle, then with the lever halfway between Direct and TA drill up through the bottom of the bushing through the shaft to the axiel hole, thus making a closed hole with the lever in either normal position.
