C113 Rear Main Seal Installation Question

The TISCO kit contained a two piece felt rear main seal and some cork pieces to seal the split between the two piece aluminum seal carrier. The cork pieces are perfectly shaped to go all the way to the crank such that the cork is between the two felt seals. Is this the correct way to install this so the cork gasket is sandwiched between the felt ? of should the cork be trimmed back so the two felt halves can touch each other ? I assembled it with the cork in the sandwich and the crank turns reasonably.
