I would try cleaning the points with some 320 wet or dry and see if that helps. I doubt that will help since I suspect the coil is weak. Borg Warner has new coils p/n FM200. You can convert your mag into a distributor by installing an automotive type coil and using the points & condenser in the mag. You would need to run a hot wire from an ignition switch to the coil. If your tractor is still 6 volts using + positive ground, then the wire from the small + terminal on the coil would go to the points in the mag. You would need to disconnect the grounding wire at the mag too. This can be done without removing the mag from the tractor. The same if you decide to replace the mag's coil. Hal PS: Here's a picture of the IH H4 mag converted. It has a ballast resistor since the tractor has been converted to 12 volts
