I would replace the whole unit before I would use one of those lousy looking friction throttles, effective or not. The saw tooth or square tooth is one of the distinguishing characteristics of the letter series. In my mind the friction tooth cheapens the looks of the tractor. I do not know if the square tooth was standard on the later tractors. I do know that the square tooth was the replacement in the late 50's. You can buy the parts (if needed) from OEM tractor parts.
