This probably does not apply to your situation as oil will avoid a rust problem. This being said, we have found out that older plumbing under ground, and in poorly vented hog confinment buildings that the teflon tape may be a good sealer, but old pipe dope lets you take it apart again someday. Teflon pipe dope was suggested for years on LP gas lines because it was said it never dries out. But then again if I find a can that has set with the lid open at a farm auction, it has dried out the whole can.
