Will it idle down and run smooth? Is the crankcase oil level staying on the full mark? If both are true then no holes in pistons. Besides you said no overpressure from breather. Does it make LOTS of black smoke under load? Does it puff black smoke at idle? If so you may have a stuck injector or just way too much fuel for the air flow. I only work on 250-1000 HP power plant diesels and then not very often but if what is coming out of the exhaust is partly burned fuel oil then it is getting too much on one or more cylinders.
