roller vs strap for H drawbar

I had the original (to me) drawbar welded up and replaced the bent aftermarket one. The old roller is shot - worn on the inside and outside. I think some guys had just used a strap instead. Any thing that I should know about replacing the roller ? I never use the swinging feature, just offset it for plowing and digging potatoes. Greg
