Farmall Hydraulics

I have been fighting with my 340 hydraulics for hours and am fed up with the system. It has the side mounted pump. I have tried three pumps. All Which look clean inside without any or very very minimal scores. How do you know if the pump is bad. Is there a special trick to priming the system. I have primed it through the hole on the pump. I even tried pressurizing the rear end with my air compressor. Still the whole system is dead. I also can find no air leaks in the system. The filter is clean and free. It could be the pump. Anything you guys know would be great.
