Hi: I recently had purchased a farmall 300 that had been setting in a barn for several years. It was bought out of an estate and I have no history on it. The tractor appears not to have very many hours on it, its really good shape. the motor was not locked up and turned freely. When I got it home, It took several things to get it going [rebuilding carburetor, cleaning gas tank and lines, plugs, points, dist cap, plug wires, battery, oil & filter etc.] when I finally got it started, it ran pretty decent for a while, but the more I ran it, [about 5 min.] there was noise [clattering] starting to develop from the valve cover area. I removed the valve cover and every thing looked normal except it looked like one push rod had been replaced by someone before me. there was a small pin hole that had rusted in the oil pan so I took the pan off to repair and found 1/2 if a lifter in the bottom of the oil pan. Has anyone had this happen and what causes a lifter to split in 1/2 ???? Should I run it or try to fix before it blows up? The noise will quiet down some what the faster you run the engine. Any ideas????? Thanks farmallkid
