When you drain the oil, feel inside the oil pan with a wire and check for sludge or flakes of carbony trash. If it is pretty clean, use Brand name such as Kendall, Shell, RPM, Valvoline, 10-40 engine oil just like a car. You can also use 15-40 diesel rated oil. If it is sludgy, pull the pan and valve cover and brush it down getting sludge out. Button it back up and run it with cheap oil 10-30 for an hour with a new filter, then change to good oil (above) and a new filter. Others will argue, but the newer multi wt oil is a big factor in engines running three times longer today than those of the fifties. JimN
