Neil, the major cause of shimmy is your wheels are mounted out of round. Try running one tire up on a board enough to get the other off the ground a little. Give it a little spin and watch it wind down, you will be able to see how far out it is. The heavy side will go to the bottom. Loosen the mounting bolts a little and adjust the wheel to try and balance it out as best you can. Repeat with other tire. If it has front wheel weights take them off, they only make things worse. This is most likely the problem, so before spending a lot of money fixing stuff that may not need fixing try this and see what happens. If it don't help we will go from there.
