Yesterday I set all the tappet gaps on the SMTA. Fired right up to warm the engine. Used a pipe wrench to turn the crank for getting pistons to TDC. Also spun it and did compression ceheck, 115 all cylinders.Painted the cover while it was off.Let cover dry overnight. This morning I installed perfect new looking cover. Checked all the wires, fuel and cranked it. Moved about a 1/4 turn anstopped. Three four tries, ditto. So out comes the charger. Four hours later I tried to start it again, this time standing by the starter. Same result but I could see the fan blade jam to a halt. Not good. I wonder did I take out the rod I was using for a gauge? SOmething is jamming the engine.Rod found. OK where's that pipe wrench I used. I'll try turning it by hand.Looked all over for it. You guessed it. There it was on the crank pulley. Removed wrench, removed battery charger, removed my head from my a_ _. SMTA fired on first revolution.
