rust probably from moisture and inactivity before you owned the tractor, and probably flaking from the inside of the valve cover. the same type rusty flaking may have deposited inside the water jackets and also inside the radiator, so that the reduced flow may be allowing it to run hot. you sure the guage is working correctly? shouldn't get over about 220 generally. If the running hot problem persists or gets worse, you will have to find out why. first look would be radiator, which you may need to have boiled out with solvent at a radiator shop. I would take a look at the timing, because if it is too far out of time, particularly if the detonation is way behind recommendations, the engine will run hot. RKS
