You may be new to Diesels, but you must know that they use the heat generated by compression to fire the charge. What you may not know is that if WATER gets into the combustion chamber, the same heat from compression can cause it to flash over into steam BEFORE the piston reaches top dead center. This creates a situation where the engine is trying to operate as a Diesel running forward and a steam engine running backwards. VERY destructive to the crank, pistons, head, connecting rods, etc., etc. Thus the elaborate precautions and maintenance procedures to keep water OUT of the fuel system of Diesels. I don't think it's happened to your tractor yet; you'd probably know if it had. I would strongly advise you to fix that gasket now so it doesn't!
