Most Farmalls I have been around make very little noise in those lower gears. Some do make a little more when in road gear, that is the nature of straght cut gears. I believe if it is making much noise at all in the lower gears especially while under a load it does have a problem with a bearing. I had a bad bearing start making the noise you described on my C several years ago while finishing side dressing tobacco. Only liking 2 acres being finished cultivating for the year I kept going. Needless to say I ruined some of the gears and turned a cheap fix into a expensive one.I would take a look inside that transmission if I were you, and I learned that the hard way.
