The 2+2 aka aligator series has a electo hyd trans brake that is activated 2 ways. First the trans range shifter has a switch a bottom of qaudrant that is activated when in neutral and the brake is activated when the clutch pedal is depressed aginst firewall depressing a switch. These units have very little or no grind if set corectly. Range poping out is due to worn arm on range cover (external) and if you look it will probably be loose on shaft. If range cover is to be removed there is a drop box on side of range trans. IH made a special tool to remove cover without taking this off and any older shop would have this.
