From that picture it looks like you wired it wrong. There should be NO resister come from the big post on the alternator. Now yes there should be a resister going from the ignition switch to the coil but none hooked to the alternator unless its in line with the #1 wire from the small plug in and then thats just to keep it from back feeding so you can turn off the engine. Most people use a lite or diode in the wire to do the same thing
