Farmall gas caps

I have one of those replacement gas caps on my M. I sloshes fuel out unless I'm on a smooth surface. Do they commonly do that or is something wrong with the gas cap? I usally get a wet spot on the hood about a foot in diameter, it's not dripping off the side or anything.
