I always thought "modern" multi weight oils were "multi weight". 10W-30 at operating temp has the same "thickness" as 30W at operating temp. The differance between the two was that multi grade oil loses some some of its high temperature viscosity as it ages at high temps - the reason why you should change your oil every 3000 miles.
