We had some bad weather two days ago but we missed the bad stuff, only 60 miles per hour winds. Some folks in Dallas are still without power, I am 50 miles East of Dallas. During the storm I undid my power and phone line from the pc and after it was past me I hooked it back up. About 10 minutes later I took a hit on the phone line and fried the dialup modem. I had a surge protector in the power line but not the phone line. Went to Wal Mart for the first time in three years and got a modem and the drivers that came with it caused a big problem. Had to uninstall it and get one from Radio Shack. It cost less from Radio Shack and I even get a better hook up speed than ever before. So make sure you get a surge protector for your phone line and DONT buy from Wal Mart if you need a modem.
