Tom: The pin locking lateral movment of the hitch should be removed at all times while doing tillage or operating a rear hitch planter. Tillage includes all plows, disks and cultivators. The 560 has the same device on it's fast hitch, I had a 560 for years. If you leave the lateral swing pin in using in ground tillage tools, you can't steer, you can't even make steering corrections. If you leaving that pin in during tillage, it's little wonder your breaking the device. If it were a 450 or 560, you'd have broke it a lot more than 4 times in 50 years.
