Oil companies are like farmers in a way. They spend huge amounts of money to retreive oil from the ground then they sell it on the market. Traders in offices set the prices just like they set the prices for corn beans ect. If the traders see large demand or supply interuptions up go the prices just like corn and beans. About the only way oil companies can increase prices is to limit supplies by shutting down wells or referies. To bad we farmers can't learn from them and limit supplies to. But what happens when the traders raise corn prices? Like sheep we all rush out and plant everything to corn thus pleasing the traders by the increaced supply so now they can drop prices again after they have taken their profits.
