Check the final drives, the front bolster (bottom part of the radiator) and the engine block for cracks. Since you say the engine is rebuilt, it should be OK. A new 60 inch Woods mower for the Cub will run you $2000 or so. You can probably find a used one for less than $1000. IH also made a 42 inch mower for the Cub which is more appropriate for it's power. With the 5 ft, you can only mow grass that is not very high and much of the time you will be in 1st gear if the grass is even moderately high.
