Patrick, Tom is right a cable will not work. You have to be able to push down on the rod to disengage the PTO. The light is in the right place. There is a bracket that mounts in with the center deck bolt. It stick over towards the light some. The engaging rod is also bent some to make up the rest of the difference. I will send you a picture of a 100% original 1950 M tomorrow. It will show just what you need. I don't have one, but with the picture you should be able to make one.
