I have not used a 424 diesel, however I did drive a 424 gas for about 5 months when I worked at the county fairgrounds. It was an four speed transmission with a high and low shifter on the side for a total of eight forward speeds. As for as TAs and cost I couldn't tell ya much. But they are really a good tractor. It was better than the other two which were a IH 484 and Case equivelent of that because it always started nice and easy and always handled the manure spreaders and finishing mowers, whatever we threw at that tractor, it took it.
