Tom, I would get that starter checked. With even a low amp 12 volt battery that starter ought to be spinning pretty fast. All 3 of my Hs are 12 volt and the starters just simply fly versus the 6 volt. Sorry, cannot help you on the bracket but a small case alternator ought to fit under the cover. Good luck!
