I believe you are right about the cable. When I looked closer I noticed it's in pretty bad shape, I found a worn spot that was probably where it was grounded. I'll take your advice and clean up the connectors, and replace the cable that runs from the switch to the starter. I'll take a closer look at the charging system with a multimeter. Thanks for the input. I bought this tractor 3 years ago for $700 and use it to make about 1000 bales of hay a year with my McCormick Model 32 mower and Model 27 baler. It still amazes me that machines that old still answer the call.
