Either the gov gear assy has stripped or the camshaft has teeth gone. The driver of the mag as you call it is the gov gear assy it has to be in time with the camshaft gear which has to be in time with the crank. What tractor are you working on as you probably will have to remove front of the motor so you can replace the broken parts and get everything in time again.
