What causes part mag bolts to spin?

I wanna know what makes the part the mag mounts into turn? when i took the mag compleatly off and i looked at the part that should turn the mag when correctly instaled that peace dosent spin at all. so what happened was i bolted the mag to a broken driver. i dont know if it is called the driver or not but it is the peace the mag bolts up to. theres a circle hole in the centre and then 2 spots that catch the mag to make it spin. the part i am calling the driver is the part the mag gets its turning ability from, that part dosent spin at all. i call that part the driver for the mag. so the driver dosent spin with the engine. if that cant happen the magneto cant turn. i can turn the mag just fine by hand and it works fine. the tractor part that makes the mag spin isent spinning it self. What are the parts that make the magneto spin comming from the engine? when i have the mag off and crank the engine for 10 seconds the part that would drive the mag does not spin! so i need some help. this what i call a driver looks like it can come off the engine. are there pieces in there that could be the culprit? I'm just hoping that its somthing in there. but it has to get power from somewhere. what all powers the magneto? I need the proper name so i dont keep calling it a driver. any help greatly appreacated. Also have any of you had a magneto not turn by the engine? but you know the mag turns because you turned it in your hand. the tractor is not turning the peace that the mag mates to? inotherwords the tractor peace dosent spin with the motor in fact it spins just interminitly but wont go all the way around. it is like its striped. are there gears that turn the driver that turns the magneto? Just so were all clear on this. I had the mag bolted perfectly with no mistakes to the tractor, and the rotor was a dead givawy somthing that gives the mag its power is not turning. so i took the mag off compleatly and looked at the gizmo that is suposed to mate and in turn make the mag go around. the part is not giving my mag any power it just stays in the same spot. if you cank it for a while it will move a tiny bit. It looks like a keyway sheered. or somthing. but im sure i had the mag put together properly as it gave good spark even at low speed with my hand. The part thats not turning is on the tractor and you should be able to watch it go round and round or otherwise how could you get the mag to work? i would imagin if you wanted to hook up live hydrolics that would not work eather as im not getting power before the mag. so it would not turn anything right now as the piece is not spining like it should
