To grease or not to grease

I think I over grease the trow bearing on my 1948 Cub, now the clutch is splitting. Is that graphite bearing really need grease? I will split the tractor and clean the grease. Last year I ajusted the pressure plate and the clutch was not half worn and only used the tractor maybe 10 hours since then.
