Check for a bad intake manifold gasket air leak between the head & intake manifold. Using a pump oiler, squirt some oil around the area suspected of leaking air. If the engine picks up or changes RPM, with application of oil, you will know where the trouble spot is. If nothing changes, you probably have carb troubles.
