PTO's on the cubs turn up to 1600 rpms or so, and start at around 500. Are you using the original mower pulley? If I knew the original diameters of the Mower pulley and the cub PTO pulley I could calculate what diameter you need. Assuming you're turning 540 at the PTO, your PTO pulley diameter would need to be about 3X that of the original cub PTO pulley to get the same mower spindle rpm's. i.e. your PTO pulley at 540 rpm would have to be 3 times the cub's pulley diameter to get the same velocity at the circumference. Maybe you should wait for an expert's opinion in addition to mine. Note that blade tip speeds above around 1500 ft/sec sound like a helicopter. I know, I've geared mine up to 1700 ft/sec, but they can flat out cut.
