As Gene pointed out, '39 Farmall As were all crank start. However, lights were available. Also, a starter could be backfitted by changing enough parts. Either way, the original 6-volt battery would be a Group 1. As pointed out by others, someone may have converted it to 12 volts, which is usually done by grafting on an alternator in place of the generator. If is still has a generator, it is probably 6 volt. Also, if it has a generator, after installing the battery (with positive grounded) polarize the generator because who knows how the previous awner had it hooked up! Polarize the generator before you start the engine by momentarily touching a jumper wire from the cut-out (regulator) B terminal to the GEN terminal.
